A solid-state drive is much quicker than any normal hard-disk drive. The reason is that a hard-disk drive works by using rotating disks, which can rotate only so fast and the more data is read and written, the slower and warmer they become, at the same time an SDD uses modules of flash memory, hence there aren't any actually moving parts. The access speeds for an SSD are a lot higher, which makes this kind of drives a recommended solution in case speed is needed. This is the reason why SSDs are frequently employed for the Operating System on a computer system and for saving data which is used often on web servers. Numerous providers also use a combination of the two drives, so they save the data on HDDs, but they use several SSDs so as to cache the more often used data and for that reason, the data loads a lot quicker while the load on the HDDs is reduced since their disks need to spin less often to read and write.
SSD with Data Caching in Cloud Hosting
We use exclusively SSDs on our state-of-the-art cloud hosting platform and we have removed all HDDs on our production servers in order to ensure better loading speeds for all aspects of our services - files, e-mails and databases. This way, all the content that you upload to your cloud hosting account will be reachable very quickly. To boost the overall performance of the sites hosted on our end even more, we also use a number of SSDs which work exclusively as cache - our system saves regularly accessed content on them and upgrades it without delay. We use this type of a setup to guarantee that multi-media heavy Internet sites will not affect the performance of the other sites hosted on our platform and this way all other websites can also take full advantage of the speed that the SSD drives provide. In addition, given that the load on the main drives is decreased, their lifespan will be longer, that is one more guarantee for the safety and integrity of your information.
SSD with Data Caching in Semi-dedicated Servers
All semi-dedicated server accounts that we provide are made on a cloud platform which uses solely SSD drives. We don't use HDDs anymore, so your websites will load extremely fast because we use SSDs for each aspect of the service - files, databases and email addresses. As some people may host websites that can be more frequently visited than others, we also use multiple drives for caching. Our system identifies all the content which is accessed more often and copies it on these drives in order to load it from them. This configuration is used for load-balancing purposes as we ensure that several reading/writing intensive websites will not affect the performance of the other websites which are stored on the very same primary drive. Using caching drives also increases the lifespan of the main storage SSDs and decreases the possibility of disk failures.
